New Method 25 | Write a ‘Guide to Working with Me’

New Method 25 | Write a ‘Guide to Working with Me’

This is your weekly affirmation to help you build your personal philosophy. Have a great weekend!

Take a deep breathe in...and say it with me...

We take the time to create a document of our operating style, setting clear boundaries for the way we like to work. It is our way of reflecting on the company environment that serves us best and is the first step to designing that environment explicitly. While not every desire will be in our reach from day one, the Guide is our compass, directing us towards our dream career and determining the people and activities that will help us reach our highest potential. Without our Guide, we and others around us are walking in the dark.

Actions

  • Define Your Work Style: Reflect on how you work best—are you a morning thinker, a collaborative problem-solver, or a solo deep-dive strategist? Watch The Intern to see contrasting work styles in action.
  • Set Clear Boundaries: List non-negotiables for your ideal work environment, such as “no meetings before 10 am” or “email-free weekends.” Use tools like Notion or Canva to design your guide. I have a template for you here.
  • Share and Iterate: Present your guide to trusted colleagues or mentors, and adapt it as you grow. Watch Working Girl for inspiration on crafting a career that aligns with your needs and ambitions.
