New Method 31 | Negotiate Everything

Take a deep breathe in...and say it with me...

Women cede control in microdecisions throughout their lives. It may be as insignificant as where we eat dinner tonight. It may be larger, such as the price of a home. We have been socialized to be more accommodating and less assertive when it comes to saying what we want, but things are different now. We no longer allow ourselves to be the losing party. We say what we want and what we are willing to exchange for it. Some of us may require constant practice to feel comfortable expressing our desires. We begin to negotiate everything in order to build up our boundaries around what we are and are not willing to concede. We negotiate to get what we deserve. 


Actions

  • Practice Small Asks: Start with low-stakes situations, like expressing your choice for dinner plans, to build confidence in asserting your preferences.
  • Define Your Worth: Before any negotiation, get clear on your goals and boundaries. Read Never Split The Difference  by Chris Voss for expert tips on negotiation strategies.
  • Role-Play Negotiations: Practise with a friend or mentor to simulate scenarios like salary discussions or big purchases. Watch The Negotiator for inspiration on mastering negotiation tactics.
