When I first moved back to my hometown in 2013, I had a lot of time in my hands. The internet just wasn't as noisy and busy as it is right now. I spent a lot of time binge-watching documentaries and I watched the Dazed Magazine music documentaries back to back in one sitting. And I realized that while the documentary itself had a formula, the subcultures did too. Every subculture that the films represented seemed to have similar elements that defined it as a subculture.
