The 39BC Body Oil Campaign Checklist
I've genuinely had one of the worst workdays today, which is so unlike me. I've basically achieved nothing. I spent this morning in the bath dictating journal articles for the Japan collection, and after that finished, all I've done is mess around on the computer. So I've just decided to come back into the bath to dictate this newsletter.
On a side note, this is the first time in months I've used Denarii. It's autumnal outside. I want to feel cozy, so I switched from Fig Milk to this and the strangest thing happened when I smelt the first hit of scent. It reminded me of last year, when Roman was bathing in it as one of my early testers before we launched. It made me think of when he first got in the car after bathing in it, and I squealed with delight because the entire car smelled of the product. It's so crazy to me how scent causes such insane nostalgia and memories. If you are an early user of 39BC, are you having your first nostalgic experience with the brand yet?
Okay, back to self-flagellation. Regular readers of this blog will know that my common complaint is how behind I am in my work. Well, it's true: I am behind in my work. I decided today to make a checklist of all the things that I have to do to show exactly how far behind I am in my work.
Haven't done one of these since the brand building checklist, but this is our first major launch. It's really exciting. It's been a long time coming, and there is so much to do, and so little money, people, or time.
First and foremost, I have no samples. I only just got my first set of samples a week ago, and I sent them straight to the e-commerce photographer. I'm going to pick up those samples from London on Wednesday and then send them to America, where they're going to be photographed by somebody else, and then to Australia, where they're going to be photographed by somebody else. This just simply won't do, and by the time the product launches, I don't think I'll have all of my assets ready. I really need to get on top of having samples to shoot ahead of time.
But some exciting news is that I am taking an office in Wolverhampton so that I can create a photography and content studio to keep up with the sheer volume of content one needs to have a brand these days. I also found an assistant on the street when I was walking through the town center. Let's see how she fares.
My office is going to be in the historic Chubb Lock and Key building, which is where I used to go raving and watch art-house films as a kid. As is a common theme throughout the last 18 months, this is a full-circle moment.
I'm moving in tomorrow, and the first thing I'm going to do is print this checklist and stick it on the wall. So here goes: these are the 25 things I need to do before we launch the 39BC perfumed dry body oil 😭😩😱
P.S. What I think I'm going to do is, as I've completed each one and after we launch, put the documents in under each one so you can see it.
Pre Production
All the stuff I need to write before we make anything.
1 - MASTER PRODUCT INFORMATION DOCUMENT
This is the single source of truth for the launch. It contains the product proposition, problem, benefit, ingredients, claims, usage, fragrance, price, launch dates and approved language so that everybody—from sales to social—tells the same story. This is basically the first thing I do and I actually started it in the product development process.
1A - THE HISTORY LESSON
Within the product master information sheet, I also include the history lesson: what is the history of oils, or what is the history of the product, and how does it connect to the original story of the volume that we're producing? Oils have been used in ancient Rome and Egypt as a massage and just general pleasure tool for a long time. It's worth noting that this is very unique to our brand, but we always include the history lessons.
