Founders Diary: Why We’re Relaunching the 39BC Website Less Than a Year After Launch

One of the strange realities of building a brand is that launch day rarely resembles completion. More often, it is the moment the real architecture reveals itself. So yes — we are relaunching the 39BC website in June.

And yes — we only launched the original site on August 29th 2025 Which may sound mildly unhinged. But I suspect many founders quietly arrive at this same crossroads. When we first launched the brand, the website formed part of the larger world-building exercise. It was developed with the wonderful team at Mestiza Studio, whose sensitivity toward image, typography and atmosphere I still deeply admire. At that stage, I was preoccupied with emotional texture rather than technical infrastructure. I cared about how the brand felt. The rhythm of the pages. The references. The visual language. The sense that one had entered a world rather than merely opened a shopping tab. What I did not fully appreciate at the time was the machinery beneath it all. This is perhaps where I should confess something that surprises people: despite years of building businesses, I had never built a true direct-to-consumer ecommerce brand before. Consumer is an entirely different discipline. It is less like publishing and more like hospitality crossed with engineering. You are not simply creating taste.
